I finally published some photos from the French vacation with the Polish girls! Enjoy!
The story of our vacation –> read it only if you have some patience!
One of the weirdest stories of our vacation happened in Villafranche. It was one of our last camping sites that we visited on the way back. We decided to put on our tent and hit the road to find a nice place to eat. One the way out we saw a sign that if we want to be back later than 22 hours we should take a pass with us. It was only 19 hours and we did not plan to stay long in the village because we still needed to drive the whole next day. Off we go!
We went down town and started to look for a nice restaurant. We could not find anything what would seem interesting. We were standing in front of the city map when a homeless guy approached us and started talking in French to us. We told him ‘we no French’. And the guy responded: oh no problem, do you speak English?
Shock! It was some kind of art to get a French person to speak English and here we were standing in the middle of nowhere with the pleasant guy speaking English to us! He could not help us but did certainly made an impression! A bit later, two guys came along and wanted to get into their car and drive away. Justyfa asked them if they knew a nice place in this town. They mentioned two places one of which was fabulous but 6 km away. And asked whether we wanted to go there and that they could show us the way. And they asked whether we were working in France by helping on the grapes (future wine!) fields… One of the guys started to call the restaurant (at least this is what we thought because we could not hear him). He told us that they had places and that we could go along. We decided to go but of course in our car (anyway, nobody proposed something else). The panic started in the car. Ania did not want to go, everybody started to tell the scary stories about where we would be brought, four nice Polish girls, picking up grapes, no guys, a large gate, prostitutes house, the guys calling to announce the arrival and how come they wanted to show us a restaurant which was so far away… I locked the doors. The way to the place was not easy and for sure we would not be able to find it by ourselves.
Finally we arrived. Indeed, we saw some restaurant adverts on the way and we also stopped in front of a… restaurant. One of the guys went inside and asked for the chef. The guy came out and asked us for how much we wanted to eat to check whether he could arrange it for us. We said: EUR 16 per person. Blah blah blah – yes, it was possible! We came into one of the eating rooms. Madzia stormed right away to one of the tables which was apparently not appreciated because she got stopped by a kind waitress. We were removed to another space where only one couple was sitting. Panic again! Additionally, the place appeared to be pretty fancy for the town standards and we were wearing shorts and shirts while all other guests had suits and other nice smart clothing on! We were laughing about the whole situation! The couple was watching us carefully (probably could not believe where in hell did they find such people like us!).
The service was very slow and we could not stop worrying about what will happen next. Why? Because those guys parked their car behind ours, we did not know what to expect from the food and because of the slow service it was getting late (remember – the gate pass for the camping?). The salad was served and it was very good! In the meantime we decided to step outside and check whether the car of the guys was still there. Yep! Parked where they had parked it! Shoot! Ok, next dish – fish or pig (okay – pork). It was very yummy! And presented in a very beautiful way! I decided then to pretend a phone conversation and go outside to check on the car again (a white renault clio
). Yep, still there! The atmosphere was getting nervous. We did not even know whether we could expect any desert. By reading the body language of the waiter we concluded that there were still some goodies comin’. And sure – the desert was served – very good! The best one from the trip!
When we finished, we asked for the bill. The waiter disappeared but… they guys entered the room… We all got scared – what do they want, what do they expect, was it a favor, and…. WHAT NOW? At this moment three of us (excluding Justyfa) were glad not to speak a word French. Justyfa was forced to converse while we were praying for the guy to leave. I heard Justyfa thanking them a couple of times (in the tone – please leave us alone…). They asked whether the bill was correct. We did not know as we were still waiting. They said it would not be a problem (oh God, do let them pay for us and feel even more uncomfortable!) The bill arrived – EUR 64! Perfect! Justyfa was good enough to persuade the guys that we did not want to go to a disco and that we were staying on a camping (although there was only one in town…). THEY LEFT! We paid the bill and left a nice tip. Now – the short trip to the car!
Yep, both cars were still there. We jumped into ours and drove away. I locked the doors again. We wrote the name of the restaurant and the license plate down just to make sure to check the place on the internet (never done it…) and check all the cars which were following us or could possibly be parked in front of the camping.
We managed to find our parking. It was late already so we decided to leave the car in front of the camping and walk to our tent. But GUESS WHAT? The gate was closed! Totally, completely, absolutely closed! We understood then, that the pass was needed to enter the camping by foot and that is was simply impossible to drive your car through the gates after 22 hours! We packed our backpacks and decided to jump over the gates! There were still quite a lot of cars and people in front of the camping (which was situated next to a park and a river)… Yes, we simply climbed the gate! First the bags, then us… Nobody said a word… Luckily! Were we happy and relaxed when we laid in our sleeping bags…
That meal turned out to be the most luxurious from the whole trip. Too bad that we could not enjoy it due to the two… very nice guys who recommended the place to us! Have a little faith, huh?
